Rapid Mission Planning Environment (RMPE)
Rapid Mission Planning Environment, or RMPE, was a labor of love created over the summer of 2017 based on an idea by our Special Force Subject Matter Expert and a Technical Artist. When a major military action is planned (such as the operation to capture Osama Bin Laden), Special Forces train for weeks to prepare, often forced to use masking tape to mark out the walls, windows, and doorways of a structure to practice breach and clear tactics. The purpose of RMPE was to create a planning and practice tool that could use environments created and updated quickly to allow for additional information to help improve training by making it as accurate as intel would allow.
RMPE is divided into two parts - Planning and Preparation. Planning allowed for the review of a 3D approximation of the location, any intelligence about the location, and the planning of potential operations in that location. RMPE was built by repurposing other Unreal Engine 4-powered Cubic Austin products - such as SYN-ISR, so it used a timeline-based interface to allow information to change throughout a set period - allowing the environment to mimic sun and moon movement and lunar luminosity to additional realism.
